Punta Origen food court

Thursday evening Open Mic ( See Video) . This place gets super crowded on Thursday's - usually there's a wait to get in. There's only 1 bar section to get drinks and beers and has a very long line. There are several food stalls. Must try :- Mister Burro, Empanadas and the waffle + dessert place

Mister Burro

located in Punta Origen food court, They have some amazing Burritos ( Burro's). You have to try them when you are here.

Local restaurant on the highway in Puerto Escondido run by a wonderful Oaxacan family. Good for breakfast/brunch and Lunch . Amazing view of the water, lots of choice on the menu, low price and excellent service

Pinches Tacos

Sonora Style tacos and ceviche. Good selection of taco's and salsa bar but they take very long to prep and serve! Took them 20+ minutes to serve a Shrimp ceviche.

Street side Empanadas and Fresh Coco

There are Frios Coco stands everywhere in the town and you cant go wrong on a fresh coconut anywhere. The one stand in La Punta ( across Casa Bonita) by the name Cocos Ninfa stands out with fresh coconut water and fresh Pineapple juice and you can get it to-go!! imagine , you can pull out fresh coconut water from your fridge as soon as you wake up in the mornings!!

One fine afternoon, a lady walked to our hotel's pool area selling Empandas. I got a few savory ones and they were delicious and loved the convenience - enjoying fresh home made empanadas right on my pool chair - I later learned that its from a stand from Punta Origen food court

Tamale for a local street vendor

Super delicious tamales for a local vendor - they sell it out of a trunk of their sedan , right across Xcaanda in LA PUNTA on weekend night. I tried one of all their meat flavors , which were full of great flavor and wrapped in soft corn layers. I noticed that a few people lined up to get their vegetarian tamales

Non Solo Pizzeria

Best Italian food ( and Pizzas ) in Puerto Escondido. I had the ( recommended by the owners ) paste with Lobster and was superrrr delicious. They have great pizzas as well. They take reservations and are mostly full after 6 pm so plan ahead in time. It may look like a hole in the wall type restaurant from outside but .. its worth getting in !! just for the food, and they have an backside patio seating as well

Mercado "Benito Juárez"

This is the central OR the Main market in Puerto Escondido. You will find many stores here in the market selling Cloths, shoes, Household goods, souvenirs, Meat, pastries, Tamales and more. And then there is this one section of the market is many food stalls. Its difficult to pick one unless you know which one to go to and everyone has their preferences. I liked the food at Reyna's

There is also a section in the market where you can get smoked fish to-go

  • Pasteleria Chely

Located in the mercado centro - They have a selection of pastries and cakes. Loved the Flan here!

  • Tlayudas Mayra

This is a street side local Mexican / Oaxaca cuisine restaurant. Located in Centro area, behind Chedruai. They has a variety of local food, tacos and Tlayudas

  • Cafe La Fe

Cute little café in Centro. Great cappuccino and pastries. They has free wifi for customers and while I enjoyed their triple shot cappuccino with Banana bread, many digital nomads were here using wifi for work.

  • Arrachela Grill

  • Empanadas at (317 Cam. a Puerto Angelito Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca)

One day while walking from Centro to Carrizalillo beach, i was passing by this local taqueria and it smelled of delicious Mexican food. I was hungry and there were people waiting in line to get their to-go orders and the inside dining area was full - good signs, right!! I decided to give a try ... first I tried to order for dine-in but no-one was available to take my order for about 15-20 mins - so i decided to get some to-go and have a picnic lunch at the beach. I guess it was a good decision.

  • Rotisserie chicken at a local joint

One afternoon while walking from the Mercado Benito Juarez to Chedraui, I saw a long line of people waiting to get hot-out-of-the-rotisserie chicken. It was too tempting and i got in the line as well. The line was fast moving and with 10-15 mins of wait, i was able to order this delicious chicken to-go. This was one of the best Rotisserie chicken i have ever had ( and got something similar at street vendor in Panajachel, Guatemala)

  • Smoked fish tacos El Viejo

This popular taco shop is located in Ricondido but they have a location in the food court in La Punta. People come here for the tacos, in particular the smoked fish tacos. They smoke their own fish (yellow fin tuna I think) & it is delicious.

Beach side food on Playa Carrizalillo and Puerto Angelito

while snorkeling and have some good beach time, enjoyed eating local desserts and oysters from the vendors. Had some delicious Banana and honey ( or sugar syrup) desserts at Carizalillo and fresh catch - of - the - day oysters

BTW, the days when i could not step out for Lunch ( and if there 's no vendors selling any ready food outside near our Pool ) I would stock up fresh ingredients and end have a quick meal like this Home Made fresh eggs with organic eggs, fresh veggies, avocado and tortillas

I ordered this ceviche for a vendor online - Ara Fish Tacos and they delivered this 1/2 Liter container with freshly made ceviche for 125 peso. Was decent tasting ceviche
