Ever year more and more people are visiting Puerto Escondido- right from tourist, surfers, expats, digital nomads and locals. Getting the right accommodation to meet your requirements is a new challenge here and needs a little more planning
Remember - Oct to March is the high season in Puerto Escondido. You’ll see higher rates to every thing here during this time
For Digital Nomads and remote works - This place is not as developed as Tulum or any other areas in Mexico. Internet is still a BIG problem here so be mindful of it. There are frequent electric outages and when there is no electricity there is practically no internet. the mobile hotspot isnt as great. You might get away with some low bandwidth tasks like checking and replying emails but if you need video calls or remote work over VPN - you will face challenges.
In recent days , there have been reports of internet via Starlink with a speed upto 250 mbps
Areas in Puerto Escondido to search for - Below is a rough division of PE for references only.
1. La Punta :- This is most ‘Happening’ place in PE - many restaurants with live music /Guest performers, trendy bars and lounges, very close to the beach. its also the main surf area and you will see many surfers staying here. Top attractions here are the sunsets at Punta Zicatela and the entire town gathers on the beach here for the sunsets

My 1 bedroom apartment in Ximajo suites in La Punta
- My internet speeds with up to 20 MBPS and i still had drops in my video calls!
- Each room has its own modem - I was also able to connect directly to the modem to get some good internet coverage
- During electric outages - There's no internet. I was able to get some decent hotspot signals via my cell phone from the terrace here ( on the 5th floor of the building)
- Great host , very helpful.

2. Playa Zicatela
Next to La Punta is the Playa Zicatela, you can walk here in 15-20 mins along the beach ( it’s the same Zicatela beach ) or through internal roads. Playa Zicatela is bustling with Bars, clubs and restaurants. if you like to party on the beach - the clubs run through out the night and till early hours in the morning. here you will be able to stay close to the bars and clubs.

3. Rinconada
This is a quieter zone a little north of Playa Zicatela
Some great swimable beaches with superb views, so if you like quieter places, walks on the beach or even swim / snorkel in the ocean - look for accommodation here
Rinconada is also closer to the airport - infact many people don’t know but the main strip in Rinconada was the old runway of the prior small local airport. This is now transformed into the restaurant row with many different cuisines from around the world
Digital Nomads can find places with better internet here.

4. Centro
This is the central area of Puerto Escondido. Centrally located, it’s close to everything. It’s also cheaper to stay and eat here with several local restaurant. Best suited for budget travelers, backpackers. its also close to the PADI dive center so if you are here for diving certification, stay close to centro
