The best way to get from Huatulco to any of these places - Zipolite, Mazunte, San Agustinillo or Puerto Escondido or anywhere in between is by taxi. You can easily get a taxi from Airport or your hotel

sample fares

- Huatulco centro / Chedraui to Puerto Escondido- 1200 pesos

if you are at the airport and walk 10 mins outside of the airport towards the xoxo store, there are taxis availabe here - this can be 200-400 peso cheaper and you will be able to find people to share a taxi with you

My Experience - I had planned to do my trip from Huatulco to PE in a mini van / colectivo for the sake of experience the local ways and culture but my taxi driver convinced me that there are no minivans available on that day ( and I saw many on my way to Puerto Escondido)

I went to the ADO terminal ( instead I should have gone to the 2nd class terminal!) at Huatulco and my taxi driver told me that there are ONLY ADO buses ( no delfines mini vans or SUR) for next 3-4 hours. I even checked with a person on the ticket window at ADO ( i don’t know much Spanish so this taxi driver translated for me) and he confirmed the same

I ended up cutting a deal with this taxi driver to take me to Puerto Escondido as waiting for another 3-4 hours was not an option for me. Money is not a issue here but I feel bad that the taxi driver gave me wrong info to get my business

so here’s how you get to your destination with alternative options…

Mini van colectivo

Take a delfines mini van ( also known as colectivo or bus ) from chedraui or 2nd class bus terminal to San Antonio ( you may have to change bus once at place called pochutla) and then take a local colectivo to San Agustinillo, Mazunte or Zipolite from San antonio. The van will continue towards Puerto Escondido

* You can also get off the van in Pochutla and grab a local collectivo ( like pick up trucks with a tarp roof ) or taxi from there to Zipolite, Mazunte, Puerto Angel, San Agustinillo etc .

These vans leave the 2nd class bus terminal in Huatulco, behind Soriana, every hour from 7am to 7pm everyday...marked Puerto Escondido. Less than 100 pesos.

ADO / OCC

There are 1st class buses from Huatulco ADO bus station to Puerto Escondido and you can buy tickets online in advance. Will cost you about 200 to 250 peso per person. These buses are non stop and will NOT take you to Mazunte or Zipolite

SUR Bus

These are 2nd class ( still comfortable enough and MAY have an A/C) bus , that start from the 2nd class bus terminal, behind Soriana and drop you at Puerto Escondido

You can also board these buses from Huatulco airport

* These buses will NOT take you to Zipolite, Mazunte or San Agustinillo

I could not find the schedule for this buses but lately they have been news that there are only 3 departures in a day from Huatulco
